Megan, our Education & Recreation Coordinator, is always looking for unique field trips for our families. I called my friend Jolyne DeMarco, owner of 4Cats Arts Studio in Leduc, and she welcomed our House Heroes with open arms.
Each of the kids entered the 4Cats paint chamber where they splashed paint onto their own canvases and a large canvas that Jolyne donated for an auction at one of our events. We decided to make the canvas our RMHCNA Legacy Piece that will be auctioned annually at our Charity Golf Classic.
We were blown away when 15 people donated towards the legacy piece in 2014. The piece now hangs in our House, alongside a photo of all of the donors, their signatures and the following inscription:
“In 2014, this artwork helped raise funds for our House at the annual Charity Golf Classic and will continue to be used at each tournament as a lasting legacy for its donors.”
And the legacy continues: Jolyne recently donated two more legacy pieces to be auctioned at our golf tournaments in Cold Lake and Grande Prairie as well.
Here is why Jolyne chose to partner with and donate to RMHCNA:
I had the opportunity to tour Ronald McDonald House® in Edmonton a few years ago and I was in awe of what an extraordinary facility it is. From the various relaxation and entertainment areas to the amazing magic room, it truly is a home away from home.
As a parent, my worst nightmare would be for one of my children to get sick and need hospitalization. Living in Leduc we are so close to the world-renowned Stollery Children’s Hospital that I think we take for granted how lucky we are to be so close to it. I can’t imagine having to travel to another city for medical interventions and have to worry about eating in restaurants and staying in a hotel where no one knows me or may even care about my situation. I have seen that RMHCNA offers the warmth and comfort of home amenities to families. The staff and volunteers that I have met welcome these families and provide strength and support when families need it most!
About a year ago I was contacted to see if my business, 4Cats Arts Studio, would be available to host a field trip for some House families. The kids I met that first afternoon were filled with excitement about creating their own masterpieces, and creating a large splatter painting to hang in the House. Since the first field trip we have welcomed families back to the studio and look forward to supporting other events in the future.
I am truly honoured to be able to support Ronald McDonald House® families.
Warmest gratitude Jolyne and 4Cats Arts Studio for your friendship, partnership, and for impacting our RMHCNA legacy!
