On December 23 RMHCNA families headed out on a field trip to Edmonton Fire Station #20 for the afternoon. The families were excited to visit the station and have a tour, but what they didn’t know was how incredibly special the afternoon was going to be.
The kids and parents were first shown around the station and trucks before playing a game of ‘spray the Christmas Elf with a fire hose’ in which the kids won hands down.
Oreo cookies were then crushed under the Fire Engine tires and mixed with ice cream for a delicious treat for the kids.
Then it was time for a huge surprise. The kids were asked to come inside as there was a special visitor waiting to see them. As they entered the station’s living area, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus sat waiting for the kids, singing loudly. There was so much magic in that room as Santa called each child up one by one by name giving each of them a Christmas gift. The smiles were nonstop as the children opened their gifts. It was an incredible end to an incredible afternoon.
RMHCNA would like to send a huge thank you to Edmonton Fire Station 20 for organizing and hosting this unforgettable field trip for our families. You went above and beyond.
Another heartfelt thank you also goes to two amazing House supporters who also work for Edmonton Fire and helped coordinate this afternoon. Allison and Caryn (aka The Firegirls) raised through a bake sale to put towards the cost of this field trip, as well as a huge donation of toys for our Magic Room and money for our Meals that Mend: Frozen Edition Program. Thank you so much Firegirls for helping make this afternoon so special.
