FortisAlberta has been a longtime supporter of Alberta 4-H. They have also supported Ronald McDonald House® Central Alberta by volunteering in various capacities like making meals for families staying at the House.
Deb Bowering took over the role of Community Investment Advisor at FortisAlberta in August 2013. She traveled to the 4-H Leaders Conference in January 2013 (still with Communications, but in another role). At that time the audience at the 4-H Conference was from across Canada and into the US. The two volunteers that she recruited for the Conference shared her opinion that although the conference is an excellent venue for 4-H Leaders, it isn’t really the audience that would necessarily be engaged.
Deb spoke to Rae-Lee and Carmen from 4-H about this and they both agreed, and offered FortisAlberta the opportunity to donate the booth space to a not-for-profit organization and Ronald McDonald House® Northern Alberta was a name that came up. Carmen knew that RMHNA was interested in attending the Conference. Because of FortisAlberta’s relationship with Ronald McDonald House®Central Alberta, they made the decision to donate their booth space to both Ronald McDonald Houses, bringing Central and Northern Alberta together.
FortisAlberta donated the booth at the 4-h leadership conference and it was a wonderful opportunity because we were granted access to the 4-H groups, making some great new friendships for the House.
