Today we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Ronald McDonald House® Charities. The first House opened 40 years ago today in Philadelphia, born of the vision and dreams of founders Dr. Audrey Evans, Fred and Fran Hill, and Jim Murray. While treating children, including Fred and Fran’s daughter Kim, Dr. Audrey recognized the need for a home away from home for families who travelled for treatment. She felt strongly that treatment outcomes would improve if the family had a place to call home. And she was right. A study published in Families, Systems and Health found that families who stayed together at a Ronald McDonald House® believed their ability to stay nearby helped their child recover and spend less time in the hospital.

We were honoured to share a meal with Dr. Audrey and her husband Dan during their trip to Edmonton for our Block Party. Through the blessing of technology, Jim Murray, Fred and Fran Hill delivered their greetings.

Today we stand with our colleagues from the 388 Ronald McDonald Houses worldwide to say happy 40th anniversary to RMHC.
