In 2015 the Edmonton Fire Fighter’s Union Local 209 (EFFU209) sponsored the Meals that Mend: Frozen Edition Program at RMHCNA. Our Union committed funds for three freezers to help support the nutritional needs of families in crisis. The first of these freezers has been placed at RMHCNA. As of September 2015, families at the House, as well as any hospital family using the Day Pass Program, has access to a meal at any time.

We are extremely proud of this program and are thrilled to see the impact one freezer has made in a few short months; it is beyond our wildest expectations! Ongoing collaboration continues with RMHCNA and EFFU209 to get the next two freezers up and running at the hospital level. Since Meals that Mend: Frozen Edition launched:

  • 252 people enjoyed a convenient, freshly prepared meal thanks to the support of the EFFU209.
  • Families saved over $2,500 in 2015 food costs.
  • RMHCNA families had over 7,560 extra hours to spend with their children.

“RMHCNA is not just a place to lay your head at night after a long day at the hospital, but it’s a place where emotional healing, friendships and family are found. My family will forever be thankful for this House that kept our family together, and healed our broken hearts. Thank you to all my friends and family at RMHCNA.” – Kathy Oszust, RMHCNA mom

There are no limits to the assistance that the EFFU209 sponsored Meals that Mend Frozen Edition will provide to any family with a child in crisis, and we are so grateful for the community support of this program. When we see a family using our EFFU209 freezer it makes us happy, really happy!

This program runs as part of Meals that Mend and relies on the kindness of the community. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Matt Mang at
