Eva’s Ride was held in Grande Prairie this weekend raising funds for the House in memory of Eva Jantz. Some of us were fortunate enough to have journeyed with Eva during her short time with us, but many were not. I would like to share my experience of knowing Eva when she stayed with us at Ronald McDonald House® Northern Alberta (RMHNA).

Eva was a beautiful baby with a smile that would melt your heart. Sitting in her stroller or baby seat, she really enjoyed engaging with volunteers, staff and other families. She elicited joy in all of those around her. Nothing about her suggested there was anything wrong inside her little body.

When Eva left us suddenly, she was the first child I had experienced losing since working at RMHNA. I saw the devastation and suffering that having a child with a serious illness can cause a family. From that time on, I knew I wanted to support these families any way I could. We can’t fix their pain, but we can walk beside them in their journey back to health and wholeness, and when they need us again, we will be there.

I am so happy we have Eva’s Ride so that we can once again be reminded of this beautiful girl and the light she brought to us all.
