On May 9, 2014, RMHCNA launched the RMHCNA Fuel for Families Powered by Ledcor lunch program and delivered 50 lunches to families at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. This weekly program ensures that all families staying at the House receive nutritious lunches every Friday.
“Families caring for their sick children at the hospital rarely take time to care for themselves, and yet it can make such a difference,” said Martin Dugas, CEO Ronald McDonald House Charities® Northern Alberta. “With Ledcor’s sponsorship, we are now able to provide nutritious meals brought by warm and friendly faces to our families when they need it most.”
Ledcor has committed $25,000 per year for three years to fund the lunch delivery program in addition to committing volunteers to the program. Fifteen Ledcor volunteers worked alongside RMHCNA staff to prepare and package the first lunch delivery on May 9.
“Ledcor and its employees have a long history of supporting pediatric initiatives and helping families who are going through difficult times when their child is ill,” said Tom Lassu, President, Ledcor Contractors Ltd. “We are thrilled that RMHCNA gave us the opportunity to sponsor this program which we helped start as a volunteer initiative last fall. The strength and courage of these families is truly inspirational and we hope that providing a healthy lunch helps make an often long day a little easier.”
